I would really like the option for multiplayer campaign to have real time battles. I understand that this is now not an option, but would love for it to either be implemented or made to be easily modded into the game. Options to have the rest of the multiplayer campaign pause when players enter battle, or option for the map to continue when players choose to go into battle would be awesome. An idea I have for when a player chooses to go into battle and the map continues is to have the AI/Court take over and select from a set of stances like aggressive, defensive, passive, or other options as to what the AI should do while you are in battle. Also important options can wait till after the battle for you to decide or you choose to let the AI/Court deal with important choices while you are away. Please comment what you think?

Let me say this, if the battles are like manor lords looks to be then yes I would love mp battles as well.

I played only M2TW and a little Empire TW (where the battles weren't as good as in Medieval), I didn't try the other games, so I'll take your word for it.

But that means that they (stupidly) destroyed the best part of the game, I don't even wanna... *smh*

    P.S.:

Oh, I remember seeing those horrific battle-bugs on youtube at Rome II launch... and at one point I was tempted by the famous 1212 AD mod from Attila, but what I saw on youtube was also horrible. Regarding both the strategical and tactical map.

    God forbid.

Same here, i use to enjoy med 2 and empire battles, nothing CA came out with after was any fun.

You know, I always wished the battles from KoH (which are the weakest link of the game, imho) to be more like those magnificent ones from M2TW.

Not expecting to be really that good, but definitely much better than what they are.

Afterall, half of the point and purpose of playing a medieval game is fighting on the battlefield. Auto-resolve just doesn't cut it, not for me and not for any other passionate of strategy in general, military strategy in particular. Just read the post below, to understand my point of view:

    https://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?603508-Strategic-use-of-auto-resolve&p=13070618&viewfull=1#post13070618

(to be perfectly clear, it's the #10 post from that topic, right above my reply. Just in case there are problems with the link)

That's why I couldn't really enjoy games like Europa Universalis or Crusader Kings.

I'm not sayin' that the auto-resolve option shouldn't exist in the game, ofc it should exist, but I'd use it only as an emergency solution, when from various reasons (bugs, game crashes etc.) I can't fight the battles manually.

And yes, I can't see how you can manually fight the battles in multiplayer, so auto-resolve is a must there, but that's another discussion.

Tw is a joke now IMO. the battles are so frequent and arcade style they become a chor where i just auto resolve anyways.

Ah, I see. Well it would be nice to have some controll over it. Maybe those who have "zealous" should be more likely to go to crusade.

And yes Papal elections should definitely be a thing. Papacy itself should have its own mechanics and, as I seen on the map, correct shape of the province. I think border with Naples is a bit weird.

yeah you should get certain benifits or influance if your cardinal gets elected.

I also found it annoying how you were not able to choose which marshal of yours will go to crusade unless you had pope in your court. So many times I would have all of troops have 3 stars and then pope calls for crushade. If I say no sooner or later I will be excommunicated. So I have to accept and then click x to return my marshal but his original troops now have no stars.

That is somewhat historically however. It was really up to the lord to go not the king. I wish they had papael elctions like med 2 total war.

In the first game crusade states did exist and they were able to be created. Although crusader states created during gameplay were not playable unless one uses cheat "bsswitch" (This also applies to Papacy which is unplayable).

However the biggest problem with KoH I new crusader states is if they were founded on a province of different religion than Catholicism they will be that religion. So for example if Crusade conquered some Pagan province the new state will be Pagan both by population AND government. I hope in KOH II they will fix this and make government of the newly created state Catholic. It would be also cool to be able to continue to play the game as newly created state.

I hope they fix the issue as well. I hope the crusader states and playable or at least can be created and play as them.

You wanted some examples of elephants in medieval Europe and I have provided them. Were there any grand battles with hundreds of war elephants? No, but they had other use as stated before.

The argument here is "what's a fun game mechanic that's historically inspired" and war elephants would 100% fall in that category.

If we are being nitpicky than having an option to have different resources at every start would factually be 1000% false, but it helps to make a game more enjoyable and repayable. So in that case I believe that even with the war elephants not being used in Europe like they were in Asia at that time, we can all agree they would make a game more fun and we can turn a blind eye to the historical facts in this case.

we could say the same thing about gunpowder. it was rarley used after intorduced in mid 14th century had little effect on battle. its not like men had rifles standing shoulder to shoulder mowing each other down in the middle ages.

Elephants as a weapon are not real for the given period. Gunpowder artillery: 1260 Battle of Ain Jalut, Europeans around 1330s. Which are appropriate for the region and timeframe of the game.

Could you provide more info on gunpoder? i was under the understanding it was mid 1300's first used and not a staple or impactfull force. But my ideal is fudlaism from around 950-1250. That would be a great time period to cover.

The original had an "adjust speed" button.  1.0 being the "regular speed", the game had an option to go .5 - 8.0 speed I think.  If you've played Crusader Kings it's kinda like that.

That would be great. The more each player and customize the better. Make us all happy. I hope they have this in KOH2

  10. One thing I always hated about Total war is there were way to many battles. After about 30 turns it became a choir and I would just auto resolve 95% of them. Further because armies could be created so fast battles really did not matter so long as your economy/industry was strong. You could lose multiple battles with no real impact on your realm.

I hope KOH2 does not make the same mistake. Make battles fewer but more important.

You are looking at a game released in 2004

good point. I just hope they dont have the standard RTS battles where you must build troops and "upgrades" on the actual battle map. But if we can auto resolve we can avoid that.

Since we're all new here, think it'd be great to start a thread where everyone can post a little about themselves. So answer some or all of the questions below and take a moment to introduce yourself:

    • Name/Handle?
    • Which Country are you from?
    • What kinds of games do you like to play?
    • Bonus Question: Do you have any pets?

Name- I will stick with bilbo baggins

    USA

    Grand strategy and Tolkien games

    dog and chickens.

I love all things medieval and Tolkien related.

  13. In medieval 2 total war you could elect the pope if you had a bishop. So the Popes were elected by the nations bishops, if you had multiple bishops, you had multiple votes. It encouraged you to "level" up your priest to have more votes because if one of your bishops was elected pope, it gave you great standing with the church and other benefits such as calling a crusade where you wanted to.

Could something of this sort be implemented into KOH2? Perhaps it could replace the non historical "ruler of the world" or whatever that is.
