just came to the conclusion that if the developers have not yet announced the MBT, then the game is ready at best by ~ 50%...

Publicly, they said the game is in it's "final stage".  They also said publicly that the only things they have left to work on are multiplayer connectivity and localization.

Make of that what you will.

For me, that tells me they only have two more things to do.  They said localization take time because of all the detail that goes into it.  I don't know about multiplayer.

Would also like some information on the release date.

They have been frustratingly mum on a release date.  Probably because they were burned bad by the "Coming Soon" announcement, "soon" turning out to be a very long time that the phrase "vapour-ware" was starting to be thrown about.

They did say it is mostly done, but there are problems with multiplayer connectivity they still need to work on.  And localization QA.  Other than that, it's done.

Very well said.  "coming soon' for the last 3 years is either intentional disrespect to the consumers or a sign of utter disorganization behind the scenes.  Either way, a game can't be 'coming soon' for three straight years.

The developers said they announced it too soon.  They should have waited.

It would have been better if they said "In Development" or a less specific "Coming".  But Steam doesn't have that option.

They did recently announce on the Steam forum that it is in its "final stage", so hopefully that means it isn't too far off.  Maybe we'll get a date soon?

I expect Black Sea Games and THQ Nordic to be much better in this regard, they have no track record of releasing an endless wave of DLCs.

Outside of Knights of Honour, I am unfamiliar with the company.

Do they release DLCs at all?

You see, I don't want them to be one-and-done with Knights of Honour.  I think it has the potential for expansions.

We can have a Diplomacy Pack that greatly expands diplomacy.  We can have an African and American Pack which lets us expand to those lands.  There is a lot of potential here that should not be left unexplored simply because some people can't control themselves when it comes to buying DLCs.  Buy them or don't.

I wish it is more state oriented rather than person oriented.

I hear Europa Universalis is like that.  I tried to play it but couldn't even read the bloody font!  It was too blurry for me.

I also dislike how 1 wrong thing, it doesn't even have to be your fault, and it is practicly game over and you can basicly restart the game.

Yeah, I hear it is pretty unforgiving.

I don't feel like playing hours just to learn the basics.

That, too.  KoH is much more easy to get in to.  Just wish it had more depth to it.  That's a tough balance to do, however.  Easy to learn, but once you learn have a lot more to do.

I think maybe Civilization does this pretty well.  Maybe.  Crusader Kings definitely does not.  Too high of a learning curve, but lots to do.  Knights of Honour is on the other end.  Easy to pick up, but not a lot of depth.

Crusader Kings III is a much more expensive matter, if you buy the DLCs as they release. Paradox Interactive is about releasing lots and lots of DLCs for their games, especially for the Crusader Kings series. Also they offer subscriptions (!) for their DLCs, but you don't keep any DLC when the subscription runs out, no matter how long it goes. If you want to reward this abuse of FOMO and this nickel and diming, then CKIII is your game.

Other problems with Paradox games are that new DLCs are released insufficiently tested. Paradox have achieved the worst rating for a DLC on Steam because it was such a disaster.

Just FYI, for CKII they released 65 DLCs.

But you don't have to buy the DLC to play the game. I don't have any of them.

Now, I'm looking at getting Crusader Kings III

I'm playing CK3 right now.  It's...different.  Way too complicated, I think.  More of a relationship simulator than anything else.  Still, am giving it a try.

I think I will enjoy it but I'm just holding out a bit for Knights of Honour, but my patience is getting thinner day by day.  I have the money saved for KoH2 but that money might go to Crusader Kings III instead in the next few weeks.

Knights of Honour 2 is coming.  It is.  But I can't imagine it in the next few weeks, so go spend your money on CK3 and save up for KoH2 for when it finally comes out.

Both games are different enough that you can play both.  They aren't mutually exclusive.

The Available Marriage Options Map is new right? Or was it in KOH 1? Because I remember that finding a suitable wife/husband was PAINFUL in the original one.

Really?  I thought it was super easy? Just look for the male crown for an available prince and a female crown for an available princess.

Yet, intuition would suggest that the pillagers would be spread out, to cover more ground and not waste time over-pillaging a single peasant hut.

That would suggest that the pillaging army didn't see the defenders coming to the rescue.

Sure, they can be taken by surprise.  On the other hand, they may have time to rally forces and prepare for the counterattack.

Would you accept a compromise?  Sometimes they are ready and sometimes they are caught off guard?  The percentage affected by their stats?

Perhaps update the 'coming soon' to something a little more transparent?

I may be speaking out of turn since I don't know, but my guess is that they don't have a date themselves.  So putting a date out there only to have to potentially change it isn't a good idea.  Hence the generic "Coming Soon".

Ah. Guess I'm a bit late to the party for Beta keys. Well, I've sent the request anyways. Else it's a matter of waiting until release.
    Thanks for the game lads.

They never said how Betas are being given out, so there is still hope!

Then why even bother with vasallage system or diplomacy if your goal is to grab all provinces anyway.

I've often wondered about vassalage myself, since the goal is conquest.  But vassalage does have advantages, such as getting some of their income.

They should add an option to count vassal countries as part of the conquest.

Honestly this game is already 80% KoH 1 but better graphics + slightly bigger map but with worse borders.

Based on the Developer Diaries, KoH2 has a lot more to it than KoH1.

When I roleplay (in which I mean conquering land which makes sense to conquer. For example if I play as Venice I will conquer only coastal provinces and rule most of Eastern Mediterranean) I spend most of my wars also fixing border gores of other countries. Like Genoese province landlocked in the middle of Spain or Lithuania migrating to Balkans. This is why I support land claims mechanics.

Sure, you can certainly do all that, but that is now how the game is designed.  It's designed to "win".

Would be great to have DLC like after half of year or after year from release with expansion for another continent, like Asia, Afrika.. to conquer even more! Ofc with new troops and another stuff.

I'd like to see DLC.  I don't want the game to be one-and-done.  They need a way to keep making money once the box is bought, and DLC is a great way to continue seeing more of the game.

  15. 1 hour ago, CroatianKnight said:

Instead of entire world it should be the existing map but more detailed. With more provinces. This would make conquering entire map a very difficult task. So basicly an enlarged existing map so more provinces can be put onto.

I think the map has plenty of provinces.  Really, by the time you get to a certain size, you're unstoppable.  The rest of the time you're just roll-stomping the enemy.

I do hope there will be a map editor or maybe make-your-own map option.

I totally agree with this.  Or even a random generator, though that would have to be a headache to implement.

I don't think we need yet another Total War title, personally speaking. I almost always auto-battle in those games, anyway.

I've been auto-battling everything in my most recent playthrough, but a good battle is always fun.  I certainly don't want to see it skimped on.

Playing battles is a major necessity for a lost of people.  You'd be severely limiting your audience if you didn't have one included or did a poor job.  cf. Lords of the Realm 3, which did practically everything wrong.
