Make Princes Great Again

Some suggestions:

1) The ability to choose the education type your child receives. At this time, the moment a child is born, they are either a spy/diplomat/marshal/etc. despite maybe having stronger strengths in other areas.

2) The ability or a tradition that allows for choosing your heir.

3) Add more family interactions for roleplay purposes perhaps, or to help explain why the 2nd prince decided to betray you and rebel with the support of your rival Kingdom cuz the 1st prince and 2nd prince never got along. Or how they're wives caused friction between brothers. Plenty of potential options.

4) Include a way to track family hierachy  beyond one generation so we can at least have an idea how many grandchildren we have in line for the throne.

5) Bastards. Let's get some illegitimate kiddos up in this joint. Maybe have an option to send children to Rome or Mecca or the Crusades or to a foreign power as a hostage.

I thought that was already a thing.

My knee-jerk reaction was to say no.  But honestly, if someone wants to blow a tradition slot on that, I'm okay with it.

Crusader Kings is that way.  --->

Satire aside, this isn't that kind of game.

I gotta admit, there is some fun potential in there.  Not sure if it is enough to justify the programmng work, though.

Hahaha, I will admit I do love my Crusader Kings. Per the first point... How do you change up the princes' career track? I had 4 sons all born as "Spies". Looked for a way to change them to something else like Merchant or Diplomat or Marshal, but couldn't find anything obvious.

You get to choose the education when they are born. However, if your previous king died so late that your current king was already middle aged upon coronation they tend to have un-notified children, which will by default have the same specialisation as their father, so you can end up with four spy-sons of your spy-king.

Hmmm, I have a Diplomat king who is an adult. when the children have been born, I haven't seen a choice for education. I only get to choose their "skills". I will have to review that once I have other children with a future king.

Were they born to a married prince and when your prince became king they were already there?

No, I started the game with 1 prince who was also a Diplomat. I then had 3 more sons who were all spies. Never saw an option to choose the sons' class or name. As they grew I could choose their skills.

I'd think something similar to the old mechanic would be fun in the future: a prince may choose any class he wishes to pursue as an adult, but if he ever gets recalled from court and switches to a different class, he must relearn all skills in that class once again. It would make sense for the game to store their learned skills per class, so that if you switch from Marshal -> Merchant -> Marshal again, you'd still have all your past Marshal skills.

This could be a tough request for the devs to work on the current game though. It looks simple enough if we're looking at it from the player's perspective...but how would it be handled by AI? Would they keep swapping too? Then there's the puppet status (e.g. bribes) too, and more. So this idea might be better thrown at a potential KoH3 instead.

Also, rather than family interactions, I wish the royalty could also have more actions with their people instead. Right now we could only hold feasts during childbirth. Royalty-Exclusive missions/actions that could please the opinions of people regardless of their class could be a nice addition to the current selection.

Additional actions, skills/slots, and more might be added by the community instead, so my hopes are the devs place their attention to better mod support instead.

Some of these are very cool ideas, but I don't think they belong in the current game.

The game is already giving us "enough" about the royal family role in the context of RTS. I fear that if we get too granular, that will only increase the initial learning curve for new players.

Now, if what we want is an "even more" complex game, with very granular mechanics that just an "even more" cultish fanbase will play. Sign me UP for that!
