  1. I agree that paganism would surely deserve some diversity. OTOH, I don't think you really need to create African paganism for this game and its time period. If the game includes "only" the Sahara and the northernmost parts of the Sahel (I have seen that the southern edge includes Kanem), it means that all the African areas included on the map would be Christian or Muslim (or Jewish) by 1086. As for Sahelian states, Takrur converted to Islam in cca 1030's, Ghana-Wagadu in 1076, Gao-Kawkaw/Songhay in 1083 and Kanem in 1086. Nubia and Ethiopia were predominantly Christian, and the remaining pagans in the parts of Africa on KoH2 map were either ruled or under strong influence of Islam

    Map

I don't really understand what you mean by I agree that the entire Persia does deserve to be on the map and that Central Asian Transoxiana AKA Mavarannahr was (before the Mongols) one of the most developed places of the world... but although it is not that much known, the sub-Saharan area between Middle Niger and Senegal rivers had - in early medieval period - pretty advanced civilization, by far more advanced than contemporary Europe outside Spain and Italy... and it was one of the most densely populated places in the world at that time (rivaling Middle Eastern fertile zone or northern India). All that changed only when in the late 11th century and later, the Sahara started expanding southwards, moving 200 km southwards and transforming the former fertile zone into semi-deserts (the reason for moving the regional political center of gravity south, from Ghana-Wagadu to Mali). The downside of including Central Asia is that the map needs to be rectangular and if it is, having Central Asia means you need to have India in...which means a lot more resesrch and development time spent on specifically Indian stuff (and there's a lot of important and very interesting stuff in medieval India). That said, I do understand that in order to keep the game scope compact, the developers have decided to leave India out... and, sadly, Central Asia with it.
  3. Sort of. But when a game expansion of a quite big companies (Paradox) get delayed for more than half a year, it's no wonder, that an entire game made by far smaller studio can get delayed even more. I'm not saying it's okay, I'm just saying that it's just what is happening througout the industry in last 2 years. If they release something later, even if it's more than a year later, we're still losing nothing. We can spend our money and time on other things. Still it's better to wait than to buy a rushed and unfinnished product. Buying it would cost us money we could spend better, and time, we could spend better as well. The only one who is losing here is the developer - game development costs money and they need to rearn them somehow. If they don't sell anything they will sooner or later run out of them. So it's the developers whose interest it is first and foremost to have the game released ASAP. Let's be glad they are honest enough not to sell us half-baked product.
  4. products are getting delayed all over the industry, so no wonder this game is delayed too. I'm one of those who rather wait a few months longer for a better game, rather than getting a rushed one, which will immediately need tons of fixes. And I mean, even a well done game will inevitably need fixes after release, because no amount of beta testers can ever find all bugs. I only hoe the have enough financial backing to get the release done when it needs to be.
  5. I like the srletup and the approach you have chosen. Will we be able to see more of the map?
  6. oh yes, I asked, but in some context. Let me remind it to you: you stated that Elephants were used in North Africa, even in Roman times, and you got an answer that it wasn't in medieval times, which you claimed to be false. So when you are accusing somebody of false statement, I am assuming you have something to prove it. So please feel free to prove your point. Or don't lie. If you don't care about basic realism you may call it nitpicking, but It's not. It's about respecting elementary human values and elementyry respect to basic framework of time and geography. It's obvious that you and few others don't care about even essential sense of realism. Okay. No problem. You have full right to voice it. Others - however - have right to respect realism and ask for it in a game. And tell you that your wishes are inconsistent with reality. It will be the developers to decide. The only problem is that if you don't bother with facts, you should at least be honest enough and not claim, that facts contradicting you are false. Is it too much to ask? I agree that a fun element is very important in a game, but I think it should have some elementary limits. Otherwise we could ask for Samurais, Roman legionaries in a medieval game like this... or what not how about War kangoroos? They would all be as fun as elephants and no less accurate.
  7. Hehe, this is ridiculous. Yes, Charlemagne got an elephant as a gift from Abbasid caliph as a ceremonial sign of respect, a living trophy if you want, not as a weapon. Also that elephant originated most probably either from India or East Africa, but most deffinitely not from North Africa, where elephants were extinct. Hence this anecdote is no proof of using elephants in medieval North Africa. That Charlemagne marched his elephant exactly once to surprise his foe is no sign of existence of "War elephants" as a military unit. Rather the opposite: Even the 2 mentions of elephants being used by Europeans in no more than 2 military campaigns over half a millenium clearly show, that we deffinitely can not speak of "War elephants" as military unit. The undefined source you quote clearly indicates this. To use the same method, we could demand a military unit called "War singers", because the Hussites did something similar to what Charlemagne did: They sang songs in order to spread fear among their opponents. Having "War singers" as a military unit actually makes far more sense than War elephants, because these military songs were used regularly, not just once in 4 centuries. Anyway, the argument still stands: the claim that elephants were used for warfare in medieval North Africa is false. And you provided no argument to make it less false. Still waiting for something of any value.
  8. false? if you claim war elephants were used to spread fear among Europeans in medieval times, could you give some example? I agree they would be cool, but it would be as realistic as having Native Americans in KoH2, as cool as it would be. Cartaghinians did use elephants in Roman times, but the sub-specie was extinct by the middle ages and there were no more elephants in North Africa in the period covered by this game. And the elephants of sub- Saharan savanna were too big for humans to employ them for labor or warfare. On the other hand, I need to admit that my 15+ years long academic studies and proffessional interest in medieval islamic world and West Africa weren't focused on war elephants, so I might have missed some mention of them, so I'm eager to learn something new if you have something interesting to share.
  9. nice to see you mammix 🙂 The maps were usefull all the way until today and were one of starters for my mapping project (see http://rome.webz.cz/) This is a current WIP version of my previous version shown here: http://rome.webz.cz/bohemia_poland.htm In other words. Big thanks. You helped me to develop something what is still evolving and improving 😉
  10. My name is Zdenek - yea, hard to pronounce for anyone outsice of Central Europe, so call me Elvain I'm from Czechoslovakia, but most of my life I live in Czechia (AKA the Czech republic)... and didn't even have to move from the country. Bad joke, I know. Games? Oh... I loved KoH, the original one. Probably the biggest passion of mine for long time, spent loads of time not only on playing, but more importantly on modding and speculating about KoH2 all those years back. But I also like other games... from board games I love Carcassone and Catan by far the most... and from digital ones, Cities: Skylines, Europa Universalis series, Civilization series, Anno1404, but even more than Knights of Honor I fell in love with Crusader Kings and was bitching so much over there that you can actually see quite some of my work in CK2 now. Pets? well I cultivate Roses. I know most of you don't consider plants as pets, but... well, I kinda do.
  11. hehe, I wish I was a teenager back then. Anyway, if I recall corectly, Deux was Dutch and yes, he was an active modder (like most of us, who were active and still remember). I actually kinda keep in touch with Nike and Heretic from time to time... maybe they will come back too 😄
  12. hi guys, Nice to see you again, GogoT, I wanted to guess whether you are GogoT, before reading your post propperly 🙂 And... since you asked, I got a message from a little bird who knows me via other channels and... 🧙‍♂️ Abra Kadabra... I'm here 😄 But to be honest, I'm watching KoH:S since the first facebook posts... and to be honest, the other member mentioned in the OP actually told me about the birth of KoH2 (after I already knew, though :D) Anyway, nice to see you again, guys after those looog years. Awesome to read from Laudan too 🤗👋
